Pet owner portal: appointment requests and clinic approval

In the portal, a pet owner sends an appointment request, the clinic approves or rejects it, and the result lands on the owner's pet timeline. The approval screen on the clinic side and the screens owners use (sign-in, requests, care calendar, timeline, messaging) work in the web app; the portal is in beta. Delivering notifications to owners works once a notification provider is configured.

What exists today, and what does not?

The portal has two halves: the clinic side and the side pet owners use. Both work in the web app; the portal is in beta.

Working today

  • Groundwork for appointment requests and the pet timeline
  • Portal requests in the clinic web app: approve and reject
  • Account approval: the clinic approves an owner's registration
  • Owner sign-in, appointment requests, care calendar and timeline
  • Asynchronous messaging per patient (beta, not live chat)
  • Account lockout groundwork for repeated failed sign-ins

Needs a provider key

  • E-mail/SMS notification delivery to owners (works once a notification provider is configured)

Clinic approval: requests and accounts stay under your control

Nothing coming in from the portal is processed without clinic approval. The approve-or-reject decision stays with clinic staff.

  • Account approval

An owner registers; the account becomes active once the clinic approves it.

  • Approve and reject requests

Appointment requests are listed on the portal requests screen; the clinic approves or rejects them.

  • Account lockout

After repeated failed sign-ins the account is locked temporarily.

Pet timeline: the record flow an owner sees

Clinical records such as vaccines, examinations, prescriptions and surgeries line up on a single timeline. The sample flow below shows how a pet's timeline reads.

Scope: what the portal deliberately leaves out

Today the portal is designed for appointment requests, the timeline and asynchronous messaging. The items below are out of scope and are not a roadmap promise either.

  • No invoice payment

Invoices are not paid through the portal; collection happens at the clinic.

  • No live chat

The portal has per-patient asynchronous messaging (beta); there is no real-time chat. Details are on a separate page.

Frequently asked questions about the pet owner portal

Yes, as a beta. The clinic side (portal requests, account approval, message inbox) and the screens owners use (sign-in, appointment requests, care calendar, timeline, messaging) work in the web app. E-mail/SMS notifications to owners go out once a notification provider is configured.

Clinic staff. A request from the portal appears on the portal requests screen of the clinic web app and is not processed until the clinic approves or rejects it.

Not for now. The SMS, email, push and WhatsApp provider connections are not set up yet; once owners can sign in, the result will show on their timeline.
